What makes vintage tyres so different?
Tyre technology - and tyre sizes - have advanced so much over the years. Modern tyres tend to be much wider, and since the mid-20th century have not needed inner tubes. Many early tyres for vintage vehicles require inner tubes and are 'beaded', which means they have a hard rubber edge to hook onto the wheels. These were succeeded by wired-on tyres in the 1920s, which have a solid wire running around the tyre instead. As a much older technology the knowledge required to fit these tyres without causing damage to the wheels is considered more specialist.
